Help and Frequently Asked Questions

We have tried to answer some of the more frequent questions below and throughout the booking process. However, if you are still unsure, please contact us.

What can I put on a pallet?

It is amazing the sort of items we see on pallets - everything from boxes of clothes to kitchen sinks - even a complete bathroom suite with clever packing. Pallets are big enough and strong enough to even carry over a ton (1000kgs) of bricks or an AGA type cooker.

Where can I get a pallet from?

Pallets can be found lying around in many places - you may be able to acquire one from your employer of course you must ask permission first, you can also purchase a pallet from a local supplier whose number can be found in your telephone directory. Make sure the pallet is in good condition and is no more than 120x100cms. Alternatively you can ask us to supply a pallet when we arrive to collect.

Packing the pallet

You must make sure goods are secured properly, otherwise the driver has every right to refuse to carry it. The standard way is to use shrink wrap basically strong cling film which we will do for you if required (see our palletisation service). You can also use rope or straps. You could even screw a wooden crate to the pallet but make sure the screws don't project. Also bear in mind that pallets are often loaded in all weathers so do make sure they are covered if needed.
A badly packed pallet will not only damage your goods, but may well damage other peoples.

Engines, gearboxes, machinery etc

Please make sure ALL oils and other liquids are drained. If YOUR pallet leaks onto other people's you will be liable for the damage caused. This is vitally important!

Lorry Access

It is important to make sure that the lorry will fit down your road BEFORE you request a collection/delivery. The smallest lorries used are 7.5 tons.

What is a Tail Lift

This is basically a hydraulic platform that will lift a pallet on a pallet truck from ground level up to the back of the lorry. This is ideal for people who don't have access to a forklift

Do you have a Pallet truck?

All lorries carry a pallet truck for loading. Please remember that when they are carrying a pallet they will ONLY work on smooth and fairly level ground, concrete or tarmac are best.

Failed or missed collections

The price paid is for one collection/delivery attempt only. Lorries are not cheap to run so if the pallet is not available the charge will still apply.

It is important to make sure that the pallet service you request is the one you pay for. If you mistakenly order a small pallet when it is a large one additional costs and fees will apply. This is also the case if part of your consignment 'overhangs' the pallet in any direction.

When will my collection be delivered?

We will deliver to most of the UK next working day although some areas are not accessible on this service. In those areas we will deliver within 3 days following date of collection and we will call the telephone number you provide to ensure someone is available to receive the delivery. Areas falling into our 3 day service are;
Scottish Highlands and Islands, Isle of Man, Isle of Wight & Ireland. You will also be notified of this if you enter a postcode from one of these areas when booking.
